The History behind
Liberty Place

The early concepts for creating a structured program to enable people severely disabled by acquired brain injury (ABI) to live in a home based setting was set in the minds and hearts of the “Founding Mothers”: Four women with varied health-care backgrounds who worked together in a nursing facility which housed a small program for brain injury survivors.

Recognizing that while services were being developed for people with mild to moderate impact from (ABI), little was being done for those who would require a greater level of care. The experiences of these people who were falling through the cracks in the continuum of care pointed to a great need for a setting that would not only enable them to live more independently but to also live more productively. It was the desire of the founders to see that there would be a special place(s) in this world where people could come to once again enjoy a life of purpose filled with meaning.
